Instruments that are a bit wrong.

I'm Yaniv Schonfeld, a.k.a. Willbear. I build noise boxes, pocket instruments and strange software, and I teach people to build their own.

Most of it is open source. Some of it you can buy. All of it you can learn to make.

Launch week. Seven projects, one page. A video for each one is on its way: follow on Instagram or YouTube to catch them.

Things you can hold

Built by hand in Haifa. Ask and I'll tell you what's on the bench, or come and build one yourself.

The Fuzilator PukeMachine, a black pedal with a hand-engraved panel

Fuzilator PukeMachine

A handmade fuzz and noise box: two gain stages, a feedback loop and a contact microphone inside. Plug in a guitar, a synth, or nothing at all.

Four of TWOFOLD's screens: volume, EQ, reverb and saturation

TWOFOLD

A small USB sound card: two in, two out, an EQ, effects and a screen. No drivers. Turn it with one knob or from your browser.

The Samplooler screen: a tape between two reels, the stick-figure operator running on it with three delay echoes behind

Samplooler

A small looper you play by tilting it. Hold the button and make a sound; let go and it loops. A little operator runs on the tape: tip forward and it sprints, tip back and it runs backwards.

1 board = 2 instruments TWOFOLD and Samplooler run on the same ESP32 board. Flash it as one, flash it as the other. Build it in the ESP32 workshop and go home with both.

Things you can run

Free to download, free to change. On an old PC, a pocket handheld, a Raspberry Pi or your browser.

BARE!'s PLAY page, an omnichord on the screen

BARE!

A synthesizer that is the whole computer. It boots from a USB stick straight into the instrument, no operating system, on PCs from the late 90s to now.

RHYTHM's pattern page: twelve coloured drum tracks and a chopped break

RHYTHM

A drum machine and sampler for the R36S, a pocket game handheld. Twelve tracks of synth drums and chopped samples, pads on the buttons, a stutter on the stick.

RING's round pages on a touchscreen

RING

A round touch instrument for a Raspberry Pi. It listens to what you play, finds the beat, and gives you pads, chords, drums and loops on top.

Wikipedia in WRONG: broken JPEGs and zalgo text

WRONG

A web browser that's wrong on purpose. It byte-flips images, pours zalgo into text and datamoshes video as you browse.

The code, the circuits and the manuals stay free. Patreon is how they stay that way.

If something here made you a sound you like, or taught you how a thing works, chipping in a few dollars a month pays for the parts, the boards and the time.
